What to expect?
Development is at the core of U11 hockey. It is a continuous opportunity for young players to develop and refine fundamental movement skills (skating, turning, acceleration), manipulation skills (shooting, puck control, passing) and overall motor skills (balance, coordination, agility) in a fun and safe environment, promoting skill development through self-confidence.
The U11 level is the first to differentiate between recreation (practice) and competitive programming. Players in this division begin their season on full ice. The U11 Program follows the below:

All players are introduced to positions – forward (LW-C-RW)/defence (LD-RD)/goaltender. Players should rotate through forward and defence in the first half of the season and then may move to more consistent positions in the second half. Full time goaltenders allowed.

What Age Group is U11?
For 9 and 10 years old players (as of Dec. 31st). For a specific age grouping chart, that includes year of birth see the OMHA website.
What Equipment do players Need?
OMHA provides a great resource for hockey equipment as a starting point.
- Other items we suggest: water bottle
- One home and away jersey, yours to keep at the end of the season (Sponsored by atoMC McDonald's)
- One pair of socks (usually provided once games begin).
- Goaltender equipment
How often do U11's play and what is the schedule?
U11 will practice at home ice (Haldimand Memorial Arena). We practice 1-2 a week for 50 minutes. Games can be 1-2 times a week. Every week is different in terms of practice to game ratio. We offer a minimum of 45 hours of ice time per season (that does not include tournaments and exhibition games)

Do u11 play games or tournaments?
Yes, expect U11 to engage in game play. There will be opportunity to develop and improve players’ skills prior to organized games. There will be opportunities to participate in tournaments. The coach will reach out to players if a tournament is available during the season.
Are there any prerequisites to join u11?
Players do not need to have previous experience or need to “move up” from a previous division (such as U9). New players and all skill levels are welcome!
Can u11 be called up to play with u13 (Affiliate)?
Affiliates may be selected if the U13 team is able to accept additional players. Traditionally, returning U11 players may affiliate on the U13 team. There is no additional cost for a player to affiliate to the U13 team.
IS body checking allowed?
No, body checking is not permitted in any division.
